My Soul To Lose

Soul Screamers - The last thing you hear before you die…
Rachel Vincent’s My Soul To Lose, a prequel to her new YA book My Soul To Take, is a short story that combines mythology, fantasy and a little bit of romance into a fantastic hybrid that is debuting the new Harlequin Teen series. It also has me chomping at the bit for the next novel after less than 100 pages.
Because its a prequel there are a whole lot of questions and not very many answers. But the writing is good enough to eclipse some of the other paranormal teen romances I’ve read lately.
The “teen experience” is captured quite beautifully and the snarky humor of the main character, Kaylee, reminds me of… well me. I can’t really ask for much more there.
My Soul To Lose only scrapes the surface of the mysterious universe Vincent has created for the masthead in her Soul Screamers series. I can’t really say any more without giving things away and its so much better if you read it yourself. (There’s a link at the bottom of this post for the free e-book of My Soul To Lose.) I will add though that there are (so far) no vampires, werewolves, witches or ghosts. And damn, that’s refreshing.
I’m sure I’ll have more to say when I power through the full book on August 1st. Until then, check out My Soul To Lose for free online. My Soul To Take is due on shelves August 1st.
