Writers Block? Pssh…

For those who don’t know, I pretend to be a writer sometimes. Well I guess not pretend, anyone who writes could call themselves a writer, ya? Anyway… for the past, oh… I don’t know, 4 months I’ve had writers block. If you’ve ever had it before you know that it means something different than just not being able to write. Its more like everything you write just sounds like crap.
That’s where I was, in fact its quite possible I’ve had something akin to mini-writers block for the last six years. It seems like college is not all its cracked up to be since instead of focusing on interesting writing I spent five years writing research papers and presentations about geology. After a full schedule at school and a 40 hour work week, plus mountains of homework, there’s little left over to be creative.
I’ve been out of school for almost two years (woohoo!) and I’m just not starting to get back into the groove of writing at will. First I started reading like a mad woman again, now I’m moving on to writing like a mad woman. My knitting has been suffering as a result. But I’ve always been more apt to make things with words that anything else so I’m totally ok with that.
I can’t take all the credit myself, of course, I’ve had help. There’s a few blogs out there that have really helped to spark my creative interest and get me writing again (and blogging!)
- Booking Through Thursday

This is a weekly blog meme that unites my two loves, books and writing. Every week they post a question that’s usually book related. You answer the question in your blog and then leave a comment with a link. It’s a great way to get writing about something you probably have very intimate knowledge of and it gets more traffic for your blog! I’ve found some other fantastic blogs this way too. - Twenty Something Writers

This one is actually pretty new for me, I just found it last week. Its the same principle of BTT, its a blogger meme, where they pose a challenge or question and you answer it. Only this is more writing related and sparks a little more creativity than just writing about my book collection. - Confessions of a Pioneer Woman

This isn’t a meme blog, this is just probably the best blog I have in my Google Reader. Ree posts about everything. Everything. And I love reading about it. Maybe its her eloquent way with words, her stunning photography or the vicarious feeling I get when reading about her life in the country. Her blog is fantastic so… well you should read it. She’s a great inspiration to me.
So… what do you do to beat writer’s block??
